Specialized Field(s) Japanese folklore, cultural anthropology
Current Research Themes I continue to conduct fieldwork in Japan and Micronesia in order to shed light on folk customs and human relations as they relate to changes in practices relating to pregnancy and childbirth, medical care, and so forth. I am also concerned to explore how people have imagined the body and expressed it symbolically in iconography, from a perspective in which the fields of folk belief, medicine, art and others overlap.
