The Polish-Japanese Interdisciplinary Conference “Sharing Spaces: Earth Science and Environmental Humanities” jointly organized by the University of Warsaw, RIHN, and Nichibunken (July 6, 2025)

2025.07.16

On July 6, 2025, the Polish-Japanese Interdisciplinary Conference “Sharing Spaces: Earth Science and Environmental Humanities” was held at the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken).

The symposium was jointly organized by Nichibunken and two other institutions that have deep ties to Nichibunken. One is the University of Warsaw (UW), a member of the Consortium for Global Japanese Studies, and the other is the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN), a constituent organization of the National Institutes for the Humanities (NIHU) same as Nichibunken. The conference sparked lively discussions on global issues, such as climate change, water resources, and urban ecosystems, from an interdisciplinary perspective. The 30 participants, including online participants, had a meaningful opportunity to share their perspectives and knowledge on the environmental issues we are facing today, and to deepen their understanding from various perspectives.

Nichibunken has been engaged in various research exchanges with UW in the past, including inviting researchers as Nichibunken Visiting Research Scholars and Fellows. We believe that this symposium will serve as a springboard for our further interdisciplinary exchanges and collaborations.
