The “Yoshida Hatsusaburō Bird’s-eye View Maps” database is now open on the Nichibunken website.

Yoshida Hatsusaburō (1884–1955), who is known as the “Taishō-era Hiroshige,” was a commercial artist and cartographer who rose to prominence for his boldly composed and brilliantly colorful maps. Including work by Yoshida’s apprentices and followers in a similar style, the database launches with 591 maps of various parts of Japan collected by Nichibunken. The collection will be expanded as maps are added to the collection.

The database is IIIF-compliant.
