Specialized Field(s)	Maritime History of Medieval and Early Modern East Asia
Current Research Themes	My research examines human mobility and interregional encounters in the East Asian maritime world from the fourteenth to seventeenth centuries. During this period, warfare and piracy facilitated the movement of slaves and captives, profoundly shaping relationships across cultural and political boundaries. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, Jesuit missionary and intellectual activities further connected coastal societies through new channels of knowledge circulation. I also investigate nineteenth-century Western travel writing on East Asia and its role in shaping regional imaginaries. In addition, my work considers the experiences of castaways who drifted to foreign shores, using their trajectories to illuminate the fluid boundaries and dynamic interactions that characterised the maritime world.
