Specialized Field(s)	History of the Protestant Reformation, early modern German history, European religious history, study on the relationship between the missiological perspectives and the perceptions of Japan in early modern Europe
Current Research Themes	In the course of my research concerning the Reformation in Europe (mainly German-speaking sphere), it turned out that 'the reports of Catholic missionaries in Japan' and 'the information about Japan' played a certain role as the subject matter of religious controversies in the age of Reformation and Counter-Reformation in Europe. Based on this result, I currently research following themes: (1) the process of acceptance, translation, and reinterpretation of 'the information about Japan' in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries, and (2) the formation of European perceptions of Japan at that period.
