The 254th Nichibunken Evening Seminar

Theme

“Ruinous Garden” Formats: Decay, Erosion and Waning in Contemporary Visual Culture

Overview

▶ view PDF This talk will take the audience to a tour of several visual sites in East Asia through the prism of a time-space format proposed by photographer TOMATSU Shomei's (1930-2012) concept of 廃園 “ruinous garden”. We will visit several visual culture sites with a focus on TODA Tsutomu's (1951-2020) graphic design to establish the dimension of “touch” and organicity within visual expression as a way to come to terms with processes of decline.
