Anthologizing "Chi (Knowledge)" for the Future: An Interdisciplinary Perspective

Unit
Power and Culture
Project Leader Associate Professor KATAOKA Mai

How has knowledge been knitted together, and how has it been transformed? What problems have arisen, and what possibilities have opened up, as a result? This collaborative research project sets out to investigate the reality and the potential of anthologizing that emerges from an international perspective.
The action of collating, selecting, translating and representing knowledge assumes multiple features and develops in multiple ways depending on the era, the culture, and the phenomenon concerned. Members of this research group who work in history, literature, arts, and intellectual history will approach the production of knowledge from multiple perspectives based on their specialist and experiential knowledge. We do not limit ourselves to scholars of Japan, but shall accumulate specialiste a comparative perspective,to better clarify the historical, cultural, and knowledge from diverse disciplines and incorporat linguistic specificities inherent to the practice of anthologizing. We shall also explore the dynamics and the politics of knowledge production from a multidisciplinary, and comprehensive standpoint. Further,we shall inquire into the knowledge that is needed today, and thereby pursue the possibilities for the future editing, translation, representation and dissemination of knowledge.
