「島国・日本」再考：移り変わる姿、意識、心象

ユニット: 自然観と人間観

　本研究プロジェクトの目的は、日本を構成する島々（離島）をどのように理解するかということを分析するものである。一般的に、日本は「島国」であるといわれるが、その意味や彷彿させる感情が時間や空間で異なるという点が見落とされているであろう。　本プロジェクトは、日本における島（離島）に込められた重要性を反映しながら、以下の問題について研究を行う。第一に、政府や一般市民の間に、どれほど国家や国に対する認知が重なり合っているのか。第二に、一見周辺の「微々たる領土」が、政治的・感情的重要性を帯びるのか、そして最後に、島とは単純に国家領土の一部として存在するのか、それとも政治的想像の産物や構成物として理解・機能することは可能なのか、という点を考察する。
