Important Notice for Copyright Holders

To: Copyright Holders of Publications of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies

May 2013

Notification of Online Publication and Request for Consent

Ever since its establishment in 1987, the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken) has published the results of its scholarly research and research collaboration. By distributing those publications to the world’s leading institutions of Japanese studies, Nichibunken has endeavored to improve public access to information and to promote academic culture.

Last year, to mark our twenty-fifth anniversary, we have planned to commit even more resources to promote the digitization of our publications and to make them available for free on the internet for scholars of Japanese studies both in Japan and overseas.

In this regard, we are sending this notification to the holders of copyrights for materials included in publications such as Nichibunken’s research journals and activity reports in order to request consent for the digitization of Nichibunken publications and their online publication.

If you are unable to your consent, please contact us using the contact information below by November 30, 2013.

Please note that this consent agreement for the use of copyrighted material pertains to the right of reproduction and the right of public transmission. Under no circumstances will copyrights be transferred.

As a provisional measure in the case of copyright holders who do not contact us by the above deadline, their copyrighted works will be treated as though a consent agreement has been obtained, and those works will be made available on the internet.
