Theme: Reevaluating Translation as a Driving Force of Scholarship
Coordinators: Patricia Fister (Nichibunken), Lynne E. Riggs (Center for Intercultural Communication)
Content: At this symposium, scholars, publishing initiators, and professional translators and editors will discuss the experience, issues, and management of scholarly translation and publishing in the humanities and social sciences (mainly Japanese into English), and offer solutions and models for best practice with a view to opening up a new era for translation in academia
Place: International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Kyoto, Japan)
Target: Scholars, researchers, translators, editors, and publishers of scholarly works
Language: Presentations will be in both English and Japanese without interpretation

N.B. Regarding lunch, please note that the Nichibunken restaurant, “Aka Oni,” is open on Saturday but not on Sunday. There is no restaurant or convenience store nearby, so those attending on Sunday should bring along a bento or sandwich.
