The clothing we wear changes in shape from one period to another; so do the homes we live in. Their forms are inevitably determined by the styles of the period in which they are made. In the case of homes, forms are also influenced by local characteristics and craft customs that vary by region.
　The same can be said of the way of scholarship. The articles and books scholars write reflect traces of the influence of the period they are written. The way topics were discussed in studies written in the 1950s exudes the air of that period. Of course, writings produced in the 2010s likewise reflect the concerns and trends of those times.
　Moreover, the results of scholarship are in some respects like products of local industry. We may find regional differences, for example between studies done in the Kanto and Kansai regions. This research group attempts to bring to relief the influences of the times and regional character on scholarship
