Generally, science history is regarded as a discipline within the natural sciences. This team research aims to apply the methods of science history to explain the history of the humanities and shed light on elements that affect the academic world.
　For example, many scholars try to keep up with the times. Even in the humanities, many researchers go along with the trends of the times. We will clarify how the temporal trends influenced the condition of the humanities. Moreover, we will distinguish trends that have influenced almost all fields from trends that infl uenced only a few particular fields.
Institutions affect the attitudes of scholars who belong to them. In Japan, we know from experience that the University of Tokyo and Kyoto University have different academic traditions. This team research will investigate how, and to what degree, school traditions influence scholarly discourse.
