Intellectual systems today in the East Asia have a common character deferent from the European and American styles, although having their regionally differences., because of theirs modern bases made with reformations of their traditional cultures accepting European cultures from the mid-19thC to the end of 20thC.　This character, however, is not recognized well, why the reason is there a big trend especially in Japan after the second world war. to see their buildings in modern as a Westernization, and to judged enough or not.. 　In modern Japan, the intellectual system was built by reformulation of their own traditional culture formed by accepting cultural elements from the East Asia, especially from China, from era to era. Off course, the reformulation was determined by the international conditions of that time. And we can see that intellectual system exported to Taiwan, Korea and China. Today’s intellectual systems in the East Asia have been standing on this standard, although many other changes adapted. We scholars are in these systems and prescribed by them. Take one example, the position of religions in the intellectual system. In the 19thC European standard, the humanities including social sciences, natural sciences and religious studies belongs to Christian theologie were separated as each other. However, in modern Japan, the Imperial University put religious studies in the department of philosophy as a part of the humanities. One reason of this, there are deferent characters between Christianism and Confucian studies. And so, this system of the human sciences has been held in the East Asia by today. Another example; the Imperial University in modern Japan started in 1886 having the department of engineering, which was just built as one era of sciences in mid-19thC Britain. Ignoring of these characters and watching with the scope of “Westernization”, we cannot clarify the scene of intellectual “modernization” and the character of each intellectual element and their system in the East Asia It is need to study the both of Western elements to be accepted and “traditional” element to accept them　 each together, and clarify how the system had been reformulated. In addition to them, it is need to study the view of values to develop modernization. If the researchers stand on modernizationism, or traditionalism, the studies fall into false, because many struggles were taken in the process of building of these intellectual systems. And in reality, through the 20th century, many trials had been taken to overcoming evils attended modernization, social problems being attended industrialization and urbanization, many floods suffering with large deforestations and many environment pollutions. We have to reexamine those results today. Generally in the East Asia, it is need to reconsider synthesizing the traditional elements, reformulation of intellectual system, trials to overcoming evils attended modernization. It is the aim of this team research to reformulate intellectual system today in the East Asia as to be, standing on reflection synthesizing of these all in the Nichibunken style of international cooperative study.
