An intellectual revolution has been calmly developing from the conflict between globalization and anti-globalization since the end of the 20th century. Because modernity itself fell into dilemma, academic conception, discourse, and social theory were could not react to various problems. Postmodernists try to overturn the bases of modern knowledge under the name of “archaeology of knowledge”. On the other hand, the champions of modernism have to recognize the necessity of reconstructing modern knowledge. That is the reason why comparative studies related to conceptual history are popular in Europe, Japan, and China. The two countries of Japan and China received west/modern culture with the tool of Kanji. With the modernization of Meiji Japan, a large quantity of Waseikango (Japanese Chinese words) were introduced into China in the early 20th century, without these words, we cannot talk about how the formation of modern Chinese culture was. The act of translation is often pointed out as a translingual practice. In different cultural contexts, mistranslation and misunderstanding occur because of translators. The purpose of this study is to consider a constructed process of academic concepts for the identification and difference of “space of knowledge” in modern East Asia. As for the consideration of how “modernity” is formed in modern East Asia, we can see the relation between historical consciousness and a view of the world in the two countries. In addition, we can discover the capabilities of the intellectual community of East Asia in the 21st century.
