Submission Guidelines for Japanese Studies Around the World

1. Publication Objectives

Japanese Studies Around the World is published by the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken) and brings together papers on the history and current state of Japanese Studies in various countries and regions throughout the world, with the aim of contributing to the field of research on Japanese culture.

2. Content

Content should be related to the history and current state of Japanese Studies in any country, region, or research field.

3. Eligibility

(1) Foreign researchers affiliated with Nichibunken, researchers from abroad, visiting foreign scholars etc.

(2) Students who are majoring in International Japanese Studies in the School of Culture and Social Studies at the Graduate University for Advanced Studies.

(3) Other researchers who are engaged in Japanese Studies.

4. Requirements

(1) As a rule, papers should be submitted in either Japanese or English. Those wishing to submit a paper in another language should consult with the Office of Overseas Research Exchange beforehand.

(2) Papers should be submitted on A4 size paper, and be between two and ten pages long (single‐spaced).

(3) Terminology, proper nouns and the like must be consistent.

(4) All references and quotes must clearly acknowledge the source.

5. Submission Methods

Submissions may be sent to the Office of Overseas Research Exchange by either postal mail or e-mail (sekaikenkyu@nichibun.ac.jp). In case of hand-written papers, be sure to make a copy for yourself.

6. Determining Papers for Publication

The editorial committee will decide whether or not a paper is suitable for inclusion in this publication. The committee may ask the author to make changes or corrections in order to bring the paper up to standards suitable for publication.

7. Author Revisions

As a rule, the author will only be allowed to make revisions to the first proof.

8. Distribution

Each contributor will receive three copies of the publication, which will be distributed widely to Japanese research institutions and libraries both within Japan and abroad.

9. Internet Distribution

In accordance with “Operating Guidelines of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies Regarding the Digitalization and Transmission of Works Resulting from Scholarly Research,” all published contributions will be converted to digital format and be made available on the World Wide Web.

10. Other Points about Publication

(1) Copyright will revert to Nichibunken.

(2) If photos or illustrations are used, the contributor is responsible for obtaining permission from the author where necessary.
