This symbol represents flowing water. Water implies a source of life with the ensuing benefits. By using this symbol, the image of water is likened to the roots of culture in general. Furthermore,  flowing water evokes images of fluidity and life force. These images are indicative of Nichibunken's learning style, pursuing dynamic studies of Japanese culture. The three lines of the symbol, the centerline connecting the other lines, denote the interdisciplinary and international exchange sought by Nichibunken.

Database of Heian jinbutsu shi Information 927pages Description of the database contents: Heian jinbutsu shi is a Who's Who of Kyoto in the Edo period. It brings together information on literati and connoisseurs of various arts from all parts of the city and its environs. The first edition appeared in 1768 and the ninth and last edition in 1867. Between those dates, revised and expanded editions of the directory were published approximately once a decade, in 1775, 1783, 1813, 1822, 1830, 1838, and 1852. This database is constructed on the basis of original works that are all in the collection of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies.
Database of Heian jinbutsu shi tanzaku Information 947items Description of the database contents: Heian jinbutsu shi is a Who's Who of Kyoto in the early modern period. It brings together information on literati and connoisseurs of various arts from all parts of the city and its environs. Heian jinbutsu shi tanzakucho is a collection of rectangular cards (tanzaku) on which poems were written by persons whose names appear in the Heian jinbutsu shi. The originals are holograph brush-written poems. This database is constructed on the basis of tanzaku that are all in the collection of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies.

Miyako nenju gyoji gajo (Picture Album of Annual Festivals in the Miyako) 103items The Miyako nenju gyoji gajo (Showa 3, 1928) in the Nichibunken library collection is made available for electronic viewing. It is a two-volume album of hand painted pictures on silk by NAKAJIMA Soyo, depicting the annual festivals and customs of Kyoto at the beginning of the Showa period. These paintings are accompanied by explanatory texts written by the folklorist and Kyoto scholar EMA Tsutomu.

These images and the related catalogue information were digitized by Nichibunken.

This database intends to present the pictures of the Kannon reigenki vividly and to interpret their miraculous legends.
Otake Dainichi-nyorai engi emaki(History of the Otake Buddha) 150items The Otake Dainich-nyorai engi emaki is painted on three scrolls and in the possession of Kotakuji-Shozenin, the headquarters and training center of the Haguro Shugendo sect. This emaki explains the origin of the Otake Dainichi-do, a sanctuary within the temple's compound enshrining Otake Dainichi Buddha. The scrolls depict the legend of the woman Otake, who is considered by Haguro Shugendo to be an incarnation of Dainichi Buddha. This database, with digitized pictures of the emaki and Otake related resources, was created with the full support of Shozenin.
